RoHS Directive Compliance
Teval Elektroonika ensures that all electronic products we distribute comply with the requirements of the European Union RoHS Directive. Our goal is to provide customers with safe and environmentally responsible products.
What is the RoHS Directive?
RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) is a European Union directive that restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). The directive first came into force on 1 July 2006, and its updated version (RoHS 2 – Directive 2011/65/EU, as amended by Directive (EU) 2015/863) remains in force today.
The RoHS Directive is closely linked to the WEEE Directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment). Together, these regulations encourage manufacturers and distributors to reduce the environmental impact of electronic waste.
The directive applies to all electrical and electronic equipment sold within the European Union, including both products manufactured in the EU and imported products.
Restricted Substances and Maximum Concentration Limits
RoHS 2 restricts the following ten substances in homogeneous materials:
Why Are These Substances Restricted?
The substances listed above are hazardous to both human health and the environment. When electronic waste is improperly disposed of or recycled, these substances may leach into soil and groundwater, causing long-term environmental pollution and health risks.
The concentration limits apply to homogeneous materials, meaning each individual material that cannot be mechanically separated must independently comply with the specified limits. Although a finished product may consist of multiple components, every homogeneous material within the product must meet the RoHS requirements.
Certain applications are exempt from these restrictions, such as specific medical devices and military equipment. These exemptions are listed in the annexes of the RoHS Directive.
